In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

My fannish goals this year are the following:

  • Finish this wip. I already know the ending and and how I’m going to get there. I just need to clear time and headspace to get there.

  • Write a story in my target language between 1000-1500 words.

In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favorite interview, a book, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Not that anyone is actually watching this DW, but that's fine. LMAO. I tend to spend all my time in Tumblr looking at the pretty.

Anyway, finally after a lot of hemming and hawing, finally splurged on a hobonichi )

This is kinda… hard?

Basically, I’m beta’ing a fic that someone is writing to be podficced. The writer basically asked for SPAG (spelling and grammar) which they are getting, but I do find myself pointing out things that I probably mightn’t have done if I didn’t dabble in podfic.

who knew?  )

It’s nice when a podficcer actually likes reading/performing (we really need a good word) their story. I’m just listening through someone’s raw file (not mine) and you can just feel the love of the fic radiating through their reading/performing. It’s really nice to hear.

It’s a raw read through and it’s relatively clean (only three bloopers so far). I wish I could do that. When I read, the file is a crime scene, but I clear up everything in editing.

It’s strange for me listening to this, because it’s a fandom I used to be in years ago (Marvel), and I wrote realms of fic for this pairing. But now, it’s like a stranger with a smile that I used to know, if that makes sense.

So. I’m podding this story.

It was written in 2011, and seriously, it’s very much A Story of It’s Time. Some of the terms and povs that are used in the story we daren’t use now. Even how sexuality is presented comes across as contrived and heavy handed in a way that people wouldn’t write today, because non hetreonormative sexualty is seen as accepted, and there’s no angst about whom one is attracted to.

Please note, blanket permission can be YES or NO, and that’s cool. We just need to know.

Orphaned works have been brilliant, too. Thanks to writers who do so instead of deleting!

It also applies to other podfficcers too! Don’t let them waste their time!

I don't know if podficcers are just too polite and nice or I’m just too harsh. Probably the latter, because recent interactions with writers have me getting all black European of West Indian Origin with the stare and sharp talking in the worst way.

One day, I’ll have a podfic that’s something I can do the equivalent of framing a photo and go *insert Will Smith doing the ta dah! gif* but not today. So, because I can’t let things alone, I’m really trying to work on this music thing for Rivals. It’s my own fic, because I’d rather audio ruin mine before touching anyone else’s at the minute.

I’ve always advised writers to have Blanket Permissions on their fic (to say yes, no, or maybe to Transformative Works based off one’s fanfic), but I upon reflection, I must advise writers to be more specific in their BP profile order to save the stragglers of us Transformative Artists time and aggro.

I do understand if the writer finds the efforts of said artists disappointing. Or to the point of chagrin; their efforts better than one’s own- this has happened to me- but either way, can you please be mindful that time and effort have gone into the work based on your work, no matter how humble the effort.

If upon reflection, you the writer only wish for the best person in x Transformative Field to attempt your work, please be very specific in your BP. Or just do what other writers do, and use the ‘Yes, if asking’ option to filter out whom you don’t want or who you do (like some BNFs have done). It’s exclusionary, and entitled, to be sure, but it’s what you wish, and people like me will know whom to avoid in the future.

Thank you!

tl;dr - Writers with BP, if you really want experienced Transformative Artists to do your work vs those of us who are learning, please post it on your BP. This is to avoid disappointment from both sides, thank you!

at times like this, I really hate my tribe.  )

Due to a strange bit of luck, I got a mic, due to someone moving.

Trying to do another podfic, but in my own unhurried time instead of say, the breakneck speeds of couple of weeks ago. I’m even podficcing one of my stories (try it on mine before ruining anyone else’s work). Hopefully, my experiences and future tweaks will make the podfics better by doing the following:

it's the remix  )
