this week's been fun

I did a podfic based on a madcap sixties cartoon. It was good for me in that it pushed me to use silly sounds and voices. Although my voice work needs more work. In retrospect, everything could have been more exaggerated, and it wouldn’t have broken the product.
But it’s fine!
Perfection will not be the enemy of the good and all that. Thank you very much to aoede for understanding the point of BP and putting BP on her work.

I forget how different it is writing fic to be podded.
Analise010 asked me to write a fic based on a Disney teen show called Liv and Maddie as a podfic favour (?!).
Never mind that I have never heard about the show before, and Disney geoblocks their property and I don’t have Sky. So armed with Wikipedia and a couple of stingers (three minute snips of the show), it got done. Trust me, as a pinch hitter in fandoms I have no business being in, I’ve done more with less.
The podfic is stronger than the written piece itself because of the following: sound effects and the rest of the comedic beat.
The use of sound effects for camera cutaways (they speak to the camera in the show, breaking the fourth wall) separate the two narratives in the same space.
Also, show is pretty gag heavy, and uses the comedic beat where you wait for the joke to land before moving on (like old school Will and Grace when they make a joke). It doesn’t come through on the page, because I needed to leave the space for the podficcer to do that.
If this fic had been a written piece on its own without the podfic as showpiece, the stucture would have been a bit tighter, and I would have made different editorial choices. Because it was mainly written to be podficced, it’s a bit looser than I’d normally allow myself to post. It’s really a piece of work that lends itself much more readily to voice than reading! Analise010 knocked the performance out of the park.
