on the subject of repods
Jul. 16th, 2018 07:14 pmBasically a repod is basically doing a podfic based on the same story. It can be one person redoing the story more than once, or more than one person doing a podfic based on the original source.
Anyway, back in Christmas 2017 (OMG so long?), I got matched with a podficcer and asked her to do a story for a friend (long ass context here). The story didn’t fit the podficcer’s voice at all. To the point where I actually rewrote a fic to accomodate her voice the next time I asked her to do a podfic for me.
It’s fine, it happens, not everything is for everyone.
Fast forward to last week when… I didn’t have time as much as being restless, for reasons. I sat down and repodded the story and … dear podficcer who did me a favour, I’m SO SO SO SORRY, this story is awkward AF.
Like, I know this story, I wrote this story, and I could barely finish reading the bloody thing. It doesn’t flow, it’s exceedling awkward, and I’m just like, *hands*
Lesson to be learnt: not all stories are meant to be read aloud. Some are just meant to live (or die) in the silence of the mind.
Never mind.
But -!
I’m happy with the quality of the recording.
Despite the microphone cutting out in the middle of the recording, and starting to hiss, and leaving me swearing (and I had to borrow someone else’s mic to finish the recording). I scrubbed the audio so much (due to hissing) that I sounded like C-3P0 (and having to do a balancing act between treble and bass to sound human).
But!
It sounds okay on my phone (with minimal hissing) and I’ll just have to take that as a win, I think.
One day, I’ll have a straightforward experience in doing a podfic. The experience will be so simple, I won’t have to make an entry about it for any newbie podficcers out there.
It will go from recording to posting in a blink of an eye and I’ll be smug instead of swearing like a drunken Scot under my breath.
Today is not that day.
