today I’m podficcing in between bird song and the shrill voices of children in the backyard, because it’s turned out to be a lovely day.

  • New strategies, as I go along. I’m going to be attempting two different fics with two different edits.

  • This first fic is me editing as I go, like I did with GarageBand. I’m more leaning toward this, because if I am in the zone, and need to find a voice, I can do this at the same time. I do find when I’ve had to rerecord things after a few days away, my voice sounds different, or I can’t access the same voice tone. Or sometimes, I do record in different areas of the house, and different rooms can have different acoustics.

  • The second fic, I’m going to try a read-through, and then go back and edit.

Have started doing breathing and mouth exercises in order to get my mouth muscles more supple, lol. The aim is for these podfics in phase two to be a marked improvement from phase one. Wish me luck

This is grand, tbh. Because it’s a fic that I really wanted to do (F1).

I’ve also asked them to put a BP on their AO3 profile stating to what extent they are comfortable with Transformative Works (TWs). For instance, some writers might want fanart and fanmixes, but not Foreign Language translations of their works. Right now, even if the author had said no, I would have still asked them to make a note on their AO3 profile in order to save everyone’s time and save everyone coming up from behind the aggro, you know?

Have sent off an ask/permission note re: asking a writer to podfic their fic.

It’s about 10k long, and it will be interesting either way. I’ve also asked them if they can put a note on their Ao3 profile if they are open to having their works transformed, or if it’s a kids, get off my lawn situation. Tbh, I’m going to record the work anyway for my own use and education, but if they say no, I just won’t post it anywhere, not even in my own dropbox.

How to Record & Edit a Podcast in Garageband (Complete Tutorial) this is the 2017 version

@reena-jenkins this is the video that started me off in Garageband. From this video, I got my head around basic edits, basic layering techniques, how to lay down tracks beforehand. How to join regional soundwave files into one file. As well as rerecording patches of sound (I can’t find my notebook at this minute, grrr). Things I’ll like to know in GarageBand are:

  • How to play with voice effects: make voices tinny over a phone, or one voice can sound like a crowd (I do football RPF so there’s a lot of boozy singing, or players shouting at each other).

  • How GarageBand’s own sound effects into a recording. Also, how do I export GarageBand files as mp3s, or use iTunes current set up to change the M4a file into MP3s

  • How to find the hidden Mp3 caches in GarageBand (when you’re exporting via the CD/Disk option)

  • How to noise mix so that the sound sounds even at the end (because the recordings are uneven).

  • I think that’s enough for me to be going on with for now, tbh.

The last push when it comes to podficcing is hosting.

With Garageband, I can export directly to Soundcloud (I have an account), iTunes and Dropbox. I guess one can say that the last step is when podfic is listened to, but the link to this won’t be shared. I’m just doing this because I’m a completist, tbh.

Just ONE MORE listen through and I will host it later this week (Master’s projects have to be handed in this week).

Or at least my first podfic is. It’s middling to less than middling, and I have a reverb to slot into the team chorus (there’s a part where people are singing a Spurs song), but for all intents and purposes, it’s done.

Okay, this is getting markedly easier. Cut for easier scrolling past.

cut so much you thought I was a deejay )

Right, okay. I started off life with 40 mins worth of audio, and now with judicious editing (this is basic stuff), I now have… 13:43
