not wasting ppl’s time in Y2k18

Long story short, newbie podficcer has signed up for PBB.
Asked her if she’s started her projbect (she’s been ill and life is life). She says no, she’s waiting on author/s permission for both works that she wants to do.
Went and had a nosey around, see that the last time either posted was December 2017 (it’s July 2018 now). Told her that she really shouldn’t wait on any of the authors, because this is time sensitive (although the lead time looks long, it really isn’t. The devil and time suck are in the details).
I found two works written by anonymous and told her to begin with those (because you don’t need author’s permission), and they’d come up to the word count. She’d also be working on something that can be posted, and learning the craft at the same time, instead of hanging around for permission that might never come.
I told her if she gets the writers’ permission, it’s gravy, but don’t hang around, don’t let them waste your time.
Yes, I’m a busybody, what else is new.
But I’m trying to manage her disappointment and give her tools to manage her time. Also, I’m trying to chivvy her into just starting the thing, because time will pass, and I wouldn’t want her to drop out due to no word from the writer(s) and general freakouts because she hasn’t podficced before, and it’s a steep learning curve.
This is where I now tell writers, this is why a blanket statement is useful.
Fandom and interests are fleeting, so if you can have BP saying yes or no you work can/can’t be used, that’s fine! It saves Transformative Artists and yourself time, because they don’t need to contact you. If your position going to be a maybe, please have a contact that you’d check at least semi frequently, be it an email, tumblr or twitter account.
For those of you writers who do orphan your works, thanks! Thank you for orphaning them instead of deleting, because it helps podficcers in positions like these.
