For the next podfic, I’m getting a listening beta.
Or I must force myself to take an extra day to listen to things.
Uploaded the podfic this morning, did another listen through after uploading it to two places.
Hated the over edits so much I took it down (because the fic needed spaces to breathe and the sentences to land in the ear and on the heart), recut it on GarageBand instead of Audacity.
GarageBand for me is easier in terms of adding spaces (than say, Audacity with it’s split tool). I can just go, highlight, shift and let it work its magic while I cooked dinner!
On the second listen, it feels better and it’s about three minutes longer than the original piece. But the additional three minutes have made a world of difference.
If nothing else though, my edits have come on at a rate of knots.
Despite a finger snap (not me, I swear), and some white noise in two minutes of the audio that’s driving me crazy (the mixdown has helped), the podfic is relatively clean, and I’m proud of it, although wood pigeons, magpies and blackbirds won’t let me be great.
So yeah, I tend to overedit in terms of cutting out spaces in the sentences so that words tumble over themselves like toddlers on sand. It’s something that I do need to work on, and will endeavour to do so with my final piece of work.
Then I’m going to eat all the cheese, drink all the ginger beer and have the freedom to brush my teeth twice a day instead of four. Bless.
