Right now, I'm in the middle of writing this AU. It's a story about my favourite pairing for a minute and it's one of those stories where they broke up in the past, having seen each other for five years (even though they do have a mate in common) and Due To Reasons Beyond Their Control they are back and having to deal with each other.

The main reason why they broke up is pretty much just due to carelessness. As in, both young, shit hot and focused on their respective careers. They were also at the age where you don't really realise how negligent you can be with other people's feelings, but feeling entirely too cool to apologise even if you did. Five years later, more facing thirty than twenty, these things do hit you when you least expect it. It's a study in them just realising that they (individually and as a pairing) messed up, and them coming to a gradual rapprochement.

I assure you, it's more interesting than it sounds. It's set in Southern Europe, there's food, tennis, some surfing and the seams of a rich life (I hope). There are longing oblique looks and long-buried resentments to be stirred up.

So here's my problem: there's no big climax in terms of how they fell out of each other. It's one of these things that you just wake up one day and it happens. As much as it is interesting in how it happens (little cuts until you find that you just can't bleed anymore), it's not exciting.

This story was supposed to be for podficcation, but the more I work on it, the more I think it will have to be for my own self, to post on AO3 in my own time. I fear that this might be a tad indulgent, and I'd rather not saddle this on anyone but me. So the idea is to work on something else for podficcation. That being said, the self-imposed deadline is to get the first draft finished by January 31, 2018, in order to hand it over to a beta reader so they can either throw the book at me, or thank me.

After a few weeks off (due to violent flu that's felled me for two weeks, as well as some other fic commitments), I'm back on this bad boy. I'm also back on my German - at the same time- and I honestly can't tell you which one is proving more vexing/interesting at the minute.

Oh, bother.
