well, that was deeply unfun
May. 10th, 2018 11:27 amPodfic attempt number four didn’t go so well. The fic fought me every step of the way. Like, we were squaring up in a circle, fam. I pretty much pushed through due to sheer stubbornness, but it was rough. I think I’ve stumbled on the podficcer’s phenomenon of fic that doesn’t suit one’s reading style at all.
That’s about it, I think. But I feel as if I’m getting quicker.
Summary: word count: 6760. Audio length: 39:41 Total work time: 90 mins (preprep, edits and post edits and listen through).
- The fic itself is well written, but due to how the writer arranges the words, I just kept stumbling. It’s the old chestnut coming to the fore, “It’s not you, it’s me.”
- I had to use the pause button judiciously and re-recorded over the dodgy bits. My edits are more meaningful. So the fic is a LOT smoother, tbh. I think it’s the smoothest attempt so far in terms of the seamlessness (in terms of joining the audio sound regions together for the complete work).
- Using more of the dead silences. When I have to do another take, I leave a beat of silence for the spaces, and the aural space of the fic ‘feels better’
- I still need to read slower. I tend to do that for dialogue, but rabbit on through narrative.
- My narrative voice is different from the character voices, which is a blessed relief because it’s something I’ve been working on.
- Next time a fic gives me that much trouble, abort! Abort! It’s not worth the aggro.
That said, it’s still better than the recording I did yesterday, so progress.
That’s about it, I think. But I feel as if I’m getting quicker.
