podfic attempt no 2
May. 3rd, 2018 08:10 amFlisters, you might just want to blacklist these tags: #podfic, #adventures in podfic/cing and #podficcer’s log because I’m going to be at this for a minute. I’ve given myself the target of 10-15 podfics to see if this thing sticks. Or 45 hours, whichever comes first. The reasons for my calculations are the following:
I’ve done crafts before, and I know that it takes time to get into the swing of things, to know if they are worth sticking with or not. For instance, when I started running, it took me a good three months, for an hour a day every day to actually get into a stride. For knitting and sewing, a good 20-60 hours before I got my head around it. For languages, I try and give them 20 target hours before I decide if we’re going to hang or not.
Since podfic is a whole other different beast, I think 45-60 hours should be enough to know if I have acquired the needed skill set or not. I also have enough fic permissions to podfic up a storm. By the 10th attempt (30 hours) it should be enough to put on SoundCloud for public hammering, I reckon. Either way, I’d have learnt a new skill.
- It allows time to ease over the discomfort of learning new technology and as such, will divorce the process from said discomfort
- There is enough data to be trackable, as in: has efficiency been gained in the tasks set over time, or not
- Progress can be marked from the first attempt to the 15th. If each podfic takes on average 1-3 hours to be worked on, by podfic 15 there will 45 man hours in this thing, and enough experience to weigh in on said progress
- By podfic 15, subject should be comfortable enough with the technicalities to focus on the art of podficcing
- Also, by then, subject should be able to hit their stride in terms of voice, pitch, emotion and expression.
