kaixoFirst draft is 33k words.
I do want to jump in and start editing, but both of us need the distance!
As much there is the frisson of fear that if I walk away I mightn’t return, I know I must. My self-imposed deadline is for the edits to be done within three weeks (I start Feb 17, to be finished by March 04, 2018) to have it ready to be handed over to my beta as clean as I can possibly make it.
I hate dwelling on fic for too long, and this has taken up enough bandwidth in my creative life already.
Process:
Read through the fic with a sheet of A3 paper and fibre tip to hand
Write down names and places for continuity (names of OCs, first and surname, places visited). I also will have a map of the named places in the Algarve to hand and work out car distances.
In the fic itself, the emotions and positions the characters have exhibited have drifted a bit from beginning to end, a lot of trackback and retooling will be needed.
There are also holes to be filled in via background research on various events and sound out people re: questions I need answers to (again, this will on that wretched A3 sized paper).
I think that’s about it, really. Ideally, I wanted to be finished with everything by Jan 31st, but this fic grew.
