general observations on podficcing
May. 7th, 2018 07:25 amI think I need to vary the length of the stuff I record.
As it is, in the queue, there are fics which are 8k, 14k and 30k long. I don’t think I have time for that today, so I’m trying for something shorter. I am really TRYING to sit down and read through blocks of fic, because every time I revisit the audio changes a bit. Or even the mood changes a bit.
That being said, with the effort it takes to set up to read podfic, I can understand why @itsadrizzit doesn’t bother for fanfic less than 2000 words, tbh. That being said though, I’m not in the headspace for this fic that’s next in the queue. It’s a lovely fic, very poetic, flirts with melancholy, but idek. I’m not doing that now, but at least it’s downloaded and on my phone and in my Dropbox.
I’m torn re: doing podfic of fic that’s under lock but with BP.
Liiiiike, if the fic is under AO3 lock, doesn’t me doing it as a podfic negate the privacy issue? Or is it a tacit acceptance that I’ll be expected to put my podfic under lock too?
Also, unrelated to nothing, I came across a writer saying that they don’t like/want podfics of their works because it makes their story ‘open domain’.
Isn’t fanfic basically an exercise in thinking that a work is ‘open domain’? I am a fanfic writer, and I know I’m basically squatting, and I can’t really complain if there are fellow squatters in the same house I’m squatting in? But that is fine, their BP statement is clear enough so I won’t have to waste my time.
